Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
1.
Identify and critically evaluate the characteristic features (e.g. choices in grammar, voice quality, gesture) of different spoken registers (e.g. meetings, debates, seminars).
2.
Produce spoken texts appropriate to different academic and occupational contexts (e.g. reports, powerpoint presentations, seminars, Q&A sessions).
3.
Work effectively as members of a team in constructing verbal and visual texts for presentation.
4.
Identify and use appropriate choices in voice quality, intonation, stance, gaze, etc for different spoken registers.
5.
Confidently articulate and discuss important issues related to the culture of tertiary education in Australia, and relate these to other traditions.
